Random thoughts

I wonder if most of us know the end of this peribahasa

Patah tumbuh, hilang berganti

is this,
Bila agaknya pucuk tumbuh setinggi? Baru setanding lama?

I never actually knew that. I guess people only said what benefits them. We only hear and read or see what we want.

regardless

Even if you don't like that person but you know him on personal level, please extend your help.

"Do to other as thou wouldst they should do to thee, and do to none other but as thou wouldst be done to" as Socrates said.

We shouldn't differentiate people in the way we treat other people.

Every time you discriminate people, people are doing that to you.

Selamat hari raya dan maaf zahir batin

To everyone,

Selamat hari raya and maaf zahir batin. I truly apologize for all the things that I said or done that may hurt your feelings in the past year.

After 4 years, it's still hard celebrating away from family. I feel better compare when I was freshman but there's always a tinge of sadness.

Having said all that, this year we're from Lewis 10 is having an open house and all my friends far and close *although only the one close can possibly make it* is welcome to the open house.

Love,

Juraiza Jais

I found something good

I was reading my most favorite column and I waited for this column for a week. It's called modern love. For the first time the story is about a Muslim woman looking for love and all the hesitation and confusion faced by her.

Close Enough To Touch Was Too Far Apart

maybe

I was talking to my sister and as usual I always learn something from her.

She read in my dad's magazine "Forgiveness comes from a strong heart" and second lesson of the day is to manage people must be done by wisdom.

Now I don't have much wisdom in me. I tend to irrational, childish, outspoken and take things for granted. I am also a pessimistic and the sort of person who is never been good with people.

But I'm learning by seconds.

I'm incapable of dealing anything else

I'm so tired these days that I can't bother to care about anything else. I think it's pathetic but what can I do if my studies consumed my time like crazy.

I don't want to apologized for being too ignorant or feigning ignorance. If you have to study until 6 am what would you feel? Would you give a damn about anything else? Not only that I have meetings,pre-lab, homework dues every class, lab report, and lab meetings. My head is spinning thinking about it.

If anyone else right now what is my best quality, I would without a doubt say I am a hardworking person. I wouldn't be in this state if I wasn't. Is it wrong for me to lazying around after working so hard if I define my relaxing time as lazying? I don't want to go out to rec or meet people or do whatever. I just want to stay home and snuggle against my favorite pillow.

I like listening to amy winehouse,"Tears dry on their own".

I'm just so stress now that I feel like throwing up, my head is reeling from the caffeine effect and I should probably go to sleep now since it's already 6.01 am.

I miss my home.I like Micheal Buble song "Home". It's an old song but I like it for right now. What I mean by old I think it was released in 2004? I heard it again in The Wedding Date.

I can't tell how much I agree with this

Read the article here

As usual I was reading NY Times and I came across this article " Re-engineering engineering" I think all engineering department need to consider this. I feel like a servant and depressed being forced to do works by engineering professor. I have no life and or basically my life revolves around homework. I'm tired of it and I dread the perspective of working as engineer.

I wish I can go to Olin College!

Lalala what could it be?

Well, the Iran president spoke in Columbia yesterday and there was uproar in new york and the media was frenzy about it.

I read the New York column mostly and I found there is certain missing points like why they hate him so much and behaving all irrationally. They're the one who invited him in the first place. If you're calling a guest only to embarrass him then shame on you.

He spoke on many aspects given the limited time. Personally I don't think we should applaud Lee Bollinger who is the president of Columbia university. I think he was rude. Cutting off this person time and asking rude and leading questions.

The media is fully divided into two right now and it shows how both side have different aspect and different way of looking it.

times's article

and here is the fully translated speech given by him by some website that i got from faisal tehrani's blog here

Currently in Vanderbilt there is issues on gay and the light has come upon muslim how they judged it.As a muslim I think it's unfair how the western judged us,muslim how we perceived homosexuals. They think us bigot for not supporting gay rights, well it's my religion requirement and I fully believed in my religion and it says that homosexual is unnatural and wrong for human nature.

The secular side of me said I am not offended by gays and lesbian and I repeat the SECULAR me. But I have religion and I think that if I'm not judging the secular view why should the secular view judged my religion view.

This argument was presented by Dawud Muhammed on the InisdeVandy.com which end the debate on it a year ago. The arguments presented by this person is highly interesting and if I have the time and means, I will scan it. The argument presented is rational, has flow and very convincing. Not to mention radical!

"let the police kill the beast"

I woke up this morning excited to see that a new blog posted by Normala which i regularly read her blog

I think everybody heard what happen to Nurin and I've been avoiding reading her news and when people told me what happen to her I just wanted to know the tidbits of its only because I can't listen to such horror that happen to merely an 8 year old kid and especially in ramadhan. That's just too cruel.

Then suddenly when I read Normala's blog I just couldn't turn away and my finger pointed to play and I started crying watching this video clip.

This whole ordeal is just impossible to watch and go through. Even a stoic imam and our prime minister cried.

Let us all have a moment of silence and think about this a bit. What kind of society have we become?

The Beautiful of Regret

I spent my Saturday afternoon watching HK movie title "And I love you so". It was really a good movie with good soundtrack and I found finally the name of a french song that I kept hearing but have no idea what it is. It's by Edith Piaf, " La Vien En Rose". You can found the lyrics here. I rather like the French version more than the English version. That's because maybe I think French sounds more romantic even if I don't know what it means. I guess that the beauty of illusion and why we all have fell in love at first sight.

Well anyway I was watching the movie and one of the main theme that kept popping up was, what if that you have this umbrella you really really like but as time pass by the weather diminish its beauty and you wish that you forget it somewhere so you don't have to throw it out and instead letting someone else do that for you?

I remember once receiving this incredibly beautiful crystal rose from someone and I kept it in a box and long after that someone gone from my life and I still haven't throw it out because I just thought it was so precious and one day accidentally somebody broke it. I gasped and of course I was mad at that person but as I collected the pieces I'm glad that it's broken and now I can part with it.

Well anyway I was thinking what does it take to get over someone? I think there's a quote somewhere that said "the best way to get over a broken heart is by falling in love" For me when you want to get over someone there need a will and it must come from yourself and even before that new person come into your life you already have this will that say I will get over this person. Not by words by action and thoughts too. Most people only say but don't mean it.

Yes it's true that you're supposed to get over it by yourself but honestly how effective is it? You won't if your eyes are keeping gazing at him unknowingly. You need someone to occupy your mind. For me it's true that I'm using this person as rebounce ball but is that wrong? I don't think so... I'm still thinking of him seriously and I believe that even though they said the pain will go away with time but if you're doing nothing with time you had then it takes longer. I'm a doer person and yes I am lazy but I believe in taking things with my hand. Doing things yourself instead of being passive and let the fate or time heal it. The latter doesn't suit me at all.

So as for me,it's not wrong letting somebody do half the job for you in order to move on. Yes it offends or rather I am annoyed when people said I don't really like him or I am masking my affection for someone else but in the end it's just me and that person who knows the best. That's enough for me.

thinking, pondering, and this is what i come up with

Long blog title but here I am sitting in front of my laptop at 4.15 am because I can't sleep or rather I'm sleepy but I don't sense the bed calling yet.

Fall is coming, the weather change was abrupt too. It was hot in the beginning and now you can see the leaves are turning into pretty shades of red. Soon it will be fall and my last fall season. I like fall a lot. I like October the most too*winking,my birthday is coming*

School although it has only been 2 weeks has caught up with me.Everyday I'm drowning in this humongous amount of homework that left me dead every day. This is the first weekend I'm relatively free since school starts and I definitely enjoyed it by sleeping till afternoon....ahhh I love waking up at 11am. My most favorite hour.Right before noon but still morning in my dictionary.

Somebody is coming to the states in 23 days and to vandy 28 days...I can't wait to show him Chicago which is my favorite place in the world. I've been to other places but there's something about Chicago that makes me goes ahhh this is the place I wanted to be. I'm glad that I get to share my favorite place with somebody that I like.

Well anyway, how's everyone fasting going? I'm fine as long as I get coffee in the morning which the only reason why I wake up at 4.25 am exactly every day to get my daily dosage of it.

Okay I better go to sleep before the sunrise. I rather like sleeping when it's still pitch dark outside. Goodnight.

p/s: Japan don't have prime minister anymore since he resigned because of exhaustion.

Merdeka

I'm trying to find the ad where there is 3 kids,Malay,Chinese and Indian that were friends from primary school. It shows that during the British we have to salute, during the Japanese occupation we have to bow and again during the British we salute again. Now finally they don't have to do all that because we're free. I failed to find it.It wasn't uploaded in the youtube.

I was reading Nabilah's blog and she was talking about Merdeka.Well it's true...what's the value of merdeka nowadays? Maybe I appreciate it more because I am living far away from my country. What is the true value of it except exceptional extravagant fireworks, some parades and some sappy but forlorn advertisement shown by Petronas and Perodua?

What is the value of merdeka to us after merely 50 years of independence when we have been colonized for 446 years? Thinking about it...50 years is only one tenth of 400 years and we already in this broken state. We are no longer integrated as one. I am terrified that it happens in my generation. What's to come next?

At first I refused to write about merdeka when I think that oh well nobody care about it anymore and I realized that I care. I care that my country is in this despair state. Where everybody is living each to his own. We have been too selfish. It will bring to our ruins and that's a shame after countless of people died fighting for our independence and all the people that took to bring peace to country after it.

What have we learn in history text book is by now long forgotten by people. Yes a lot of people hate history...but without history there is no us.No identity and there's nothing more to look forward. We can't look forward to the future if we don't appreciate our past.

With that Selamat Hari Kemerdekaan Ke-50.

p/s; It's a bit late...but the I think the feeling need to be right

let's have a quiz....

can you name the president of these country?

1) Britain
2) Japan
3) China
4) Australia
5) Indonesia
6) Thailand
7) Singapore

I just realized that there has been change of presidency over the recent years and I don't really pay attention to them.....

1) Now: Gordon Brown( come into power recently in May) before was Tony Blair
2) Abe Hiroshi and before him was koizumi junichiro
3) Hu Jintao(has been in power since 2003)
4) who else? John Howard
5) This is tricky since there has been a lot of them in just 10 years but the most recent is General Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
6) Aha! There was a coup d' etat earlier. Now is General Surayud Chulanont. Before him Thaksin Shinawatra. Yes the guy that bought Manchester city team for 100M I believe.
7) Are you still thinking Lee Kuan Yew? Well it's his son now...Lee Hsien Loong. Before that was Goh Chok Tong

So how much most of you scored? I had difficulty with the China...

and Turkey newly elected prime minister Abdullah Gul. He's is the first time in Turkey after 84 years since Kamal Ataturk revolution that a man with an Islamic background held the position. It's a cause to be celebrated. He's a forward thinking man that I think will bring good development to Turkey. He was the one that pushed Turkey to join EU.

Oh well I am just asking since this is all general knowledge and we all should be aware of who's who.

Fall is coming....

It's raining outside....and that is what Nashville exactly needs. It has been humid and very very hot for the past month. Every time I step outside the building I feel like I am in some kind of sauna.

The rain made tinkling sound on my window sill and it sounds so calming that I momentarily fall asleep...It's a pity that I can't feel the breeze that comes with rain except the smooth coldness breeze that comes from the air conditioner...

I'm eating my Häagen-Dazs strawberry ice cream where the strawberries is freshly picked from Pacific Northwest. It is intensely flavored and red throughout. Well that is according the package.I don't like eating strawberry flavored ice cream but Häagen-Dazs is so nice that I just constantly buy it.

Fall semester is opening in 2 days and it's my first semester as a senior. I wonder how it goes....I hope I like all my subjects. That's a high hope to be put but oh well lets be positive. Thinking the semester is coming which also means my summer is ending.Aaahh another season is passing by. Without me realizing or rather pretending not to notice this will be my last fall. Fall is my favorite season. I like seeing the leaf turn into intense deep red with orange hue. But it also rains a lot in this season.Fall is also cooler and I can start wearing my trenchcoat which I loves. Everything about fall is intense. Color becomes vibrant not bright which is a sore to the eyes.

Oh well I found another useful feature in times.com which is if you click at any word in the article twice you can see the definition. It's really good and so people there's really no excuse about lazy to look up words in the dictionary when times already did that for you.

At any rates, have a pleasant semester and may we all have a wonderful year!

The speed of time flowing

I like the new song. It's a soundtrack from byousoku 5 cm. I post about it way way long time ago. I really like the movie or perhaps I like the graphic and it's one of the frustrating story I have ever seen. Probably because it doesn't go the way I wanted it.

It's a story about Akari-chan and Takaki-kun who met in elementary school and from then on their love grows. As they're walking back from school Akari-chan told him" Did you know the speed of sakura falling is 5 cm/s? " Hence the name of the story byousoku 5 cm. Maybe it is the speed of time in a dimension. One day Akari-chan parents was transferred and they were separated. And so begin the first chapter of the story...

The story has themes about separation, loneliness, longing, the desire to be a part of bigger things, one-sided love, and finally soulmate.

My precocious school: Infant Jesus Convent

I am obliged to write this piece because it is here where I was cultured, educated and brought up. The place is crumbling and it saddens me to see this happening to my most beloved and precious school.

You see today I received an email from my schoolmate that says

Our secondary school ( SMK IJC ) is
crumbling and the school is in dire
need
of financial support to renovate the
school back to a school-able
environment. The roof is coming off,
the
conditions of the classrooms are bad,
the floors are creaking, etc .....

and what more can I do as an alumni other than to contribute my money by buying dinner tickets.

My school is a melting pot for every races and religions in the country. I had schoolmates who were Portuguese, Chinese educated Chinese, English educated Chinese (they were from Chinese Medium Primary Schools and Primary Convent Schools respectively), Malays, Hindu Indians, Christian Indians, Baba Nyonyas etc. We were taught to be tolerant of each other culture. There is no other school that has celebration on every single occasion. From chap goh mei, easter day, raya haji and to some even weirder hindu festival or the portugis festivities. Truly we were living every single culture.

The school has exist for more than 100 years and in fact the reunion will our 148th...I hope it continue exist for the next generation. I hate seeing heritage being destroyed just like I hate the shopping complex that sit atop of Padang Palawan. Every time I passed by it now I'm thinking that is where our first prime minister first announced our independence and now it beneath a disgusting shopping mall. I don't want my school to meet the same fate. Falling to government hand and changing its name and even location like BBGS.

One of our motto is Steadfast in Duty and what it means is perseverance in what is one’s assigned vocation is not always easy but it yields that inner peace and freedom which no money can buy. It stresses the importance of a sense of personal responsibility - an essential trait for everyone preparing for adulthood.

So we as convent alumnae should take the calling fulfill our duty to the school. What a couple of hundred dollars to a school that has contributed a lot towards our growth as a human?

Oh yeah. Let me post the school song too although I only remember how to sing the first verse only.

Oh, Oh, Oh Let's all in harmony sing,
Of the school we love so dear,
The life we lead happily,
Among sisters and teachers and friends

So, Let's rejoice this day and remember,
Simple in virtue,
Then Our cares will fade away,
Let us sing

Let's sing of student days,
Of good and jolly days,
When students hope and pray,
To come back some fine day

So let our hearts rejoice,
As once again we sing,
Once of the olden days,
Of students days

We must get on sad to say,
List to our vacation call,
But we'll think of student days,
God bless them one and all

host club

The Great Happiness Space

Well it's about host club in japan. I find it's foolish how girls believe that these men are offering more than just a flitting dream. The host itself said their business is the business is selling dream.

I guess yeah the girls are lonely but fooling yourself to fall in love with these kind of man?Hurm.....
